Sonoma Impressions
For "Sonoma Impressions," my featured artist show at Riverfront Art Gallery in Petaluma, CA, in 2009, the idea was to emphasize the textures of Sonoma County. I developed a multi-step process, which included making a positive and a negative to get the maximum texture from each area of an image and then blending the opposites back together into a single image by drawing in the connections. The final step was to force every single pixel to black or white. (On some images you may think you see gray. You don't. The gray is optical mixing, done by your eye.) The result of this involved process suggests an etching, a pen and ink drawing, or a film negative.
