Vortex I, II & Vortex Triptych
The waters of Lake Powell are seldom still. This causes reflections to constantly change, especially as houseboats, speed boats, and even kayaks move through the cliff reflections. This suggested to me a series, using bits from reflections to construct images representing Perpetual Motion. The Vortex images are drawn from basically one photo of a reflection of the sandstone cliffs of Lake Powell taken from a moving houseboat. The water motion combined and recombined the reflection as the boat went through it. Vortex I combines various bits of the reflection into a suggestion of a developing vortex. Vortex II uses various forms to construct the entire piece. The Triptych uses principally one main form and one background form to construct a visual representation of both a vortex and motion from one panel to the next.
